Starting point of Frauke Schlitz’ practice is questioning the space we inhabit. Her work deals with urban structures, buildings and rooms that possess distinct features. Thereby her work reflects the “signs of space”. Frauke Schlitz’ first tool is the line, while using a flexible way to move through drawing: from paper to wall to ceiling to maneuverable boards and three dimensional constructions. No matter through which approach, her focus is on the poetical qualities of space beyond pure physicality. Tectonics, rhythm, equilibrium, continuity, disruption and questions of symmetry become metaphors pointing to both the inner personal mindscape and the outside social world.
