ART 3 at ZONA MACO | NEW PROPOSALS

ALEXIS DE CHAUNAC + ADOLFO DORING

February 3 – 7, 2016

ALEXIS DE CHAUNAC, BESTIARIO, is a selection of 30 drawings that were exhibited at The Pinacoteca Diego Rivera, Xalapa in Mexico (May - June, 2015).  BESTIARIO reflects De Chaunac’s fascination with the history of the natural world: animals, minerals, fossils, insects. Drawn in small sketchbooks, as if the artist was an explorer on a voyage, a naturalist, whose mission is to bring back to us some fabulous discoveries.

Alexis de Chaunac was born in New York in 1991 and raised in Mexico City and Paris.  He grew up surrounded by art and culture, drawing in the studio of his grandfather – renowned Mexican artist José Luis Cuevas. He had his first museum solo exhibitions at the Museo Iconografico del Quijote, Guanajuato, Mexico (2014), and The Pinacoteca Diego Rivera, Xalapa, Mexico (2015).

ADOLFO DORING: REPURPOSED was created for NEW PROPOSALS, and, is an installation comprised of 2 crates (normally used for the transport of art) repurposed to project videos with sound in a continuous loop, complemented by 40 color photographs. The crate, THIS WAY UP, projects images of the artist's personal life and confronts us with the realization that life goes by too fast. The second crate, THE NATURE OF MAN, projects images of nature reflecting on the origins of cultural techno-scientific achievements and abuses of man over nature.

Adolfo Doring was born in Mexico City in 1962, he is a multi-disciplinary artist (photography, film, video, installations, soundtracks) whose work is as aesthetic as it is informed by a preoccupation with social structures, deepened by undertones of wry humor. Doring has built an acclaimed career making films, documentaries and music videos. He is the winner of an MTV Music Video Award, and directed music videos for a range of stars, including Sheryl Crow, Bon Jovi, Savage Garden, Sting and Santana. Doring's most known installation, EARLY 21st CENTURY, AMERICAN (2014) which includes the video, COMING SOON, COMING SOON TO A THEATER NEAR YOU (2014), was acquired for the permanent collection of the Museo Laboratorio di Arte Contemporanea in Rome, Italy and was exhibited at the WHITE BOX Art Center in new York during the ARMORY SHOW 2014.
